Links
to other Men's Organisation and Groups
Strength is gained through
association with other Christian men’s organisations.
The
Scottish Baptist Men’s Movement
(SBMM) promotes work amongst men in
the Baptist churches in Scotland. The secretaries of the
SBMM and BMM are ex-officio members of each other’s
Councils. The support of missionary projects and the
holding of annual conferences at St Andrew’s University
are important features of SBMM work. SBMM officers
frequently attend the BMM Swanwick conferences and BMM
officers are often present at the St Andrew’s SBMM
conference.
Although the
Church of England Men’s Society has now been disbanded, there
are still a number of men’s groups meeting in Anglican
churches, and local links have been forged with local men’s
groups within BMM. There are also regular exchanges between
officers and members of the Methodists for World
Mission,
and
the Roman Catholic
Knights of St Columbia (KSC) and BMM at Annual Conference
and local events.
These ecumenical links are also evident in a very close
relationship with the inter-denominational
Brotherhood Movement. On a wider basis BMM is
represented at the biennial conference organised by
the
Conferences of European Churchmen’s Work.
As well as
representatives of BVMM, MWM and KSC, this Conference
includes men from the Catholic and Lutheran Churches of
Denmark, France, Ireland, Sweden, the Netherlands and
Germany.
Within the Baptist “family” there are also links with
the
Yugoslavian Baptist Co-workers and with the
Danish Baptist Men’s Movement, which, amongst other work,
promotes Operation Plough (similar to Operation Agri BMM)
and pensioner’s holidays. There is no men’s committee at
the moment within the
European Baptist Federation
but there are
seats for two laymen on its Council and a committee is
under discussion.
World-wide links are encouraged through the work of
the Men’s Department
of the Baptist World Alliance whose headquarters are in
Washington, USA. They organise a Baptist Men’s
World Day of Prayer and Witness on the 4th weekend in April
each year which includes a telephone prayer link around the
world in which various BMM groups take part.
The BWA Men’s Department has normally appointed
vice-presidents in each continent.
